Program Description, Achievement and Accreditation status

Program Description

Computer Engineering entails the design and development of computer and sophisticated digital logic devices-based systems. Computation, communication, entertainment, information processing, artificial intelligence, and control are all tasks that these systems are used for. The "Information Highway" will be heavily reliant on computer engineers. A computer engineer with a broad foundation in electrical engineering and computer science will enter an exciting and quickly growing field with limitless possibilities in industry, government, and education. Computer Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines both in terms of the range of problems that fall within its purview and in the range of knowledge required to solve those problems.

HAU's BSCpE program can be completed in four years, which includes four years of academic study. The BSCpE curriculum at HAU was created with the goal of developing Computer engineers that have a strong foundation in general education courses, mathematics, physical and natural sciences, basic engineering sciences, and general Computer engineering. The practical training or internship is included in the program's final semester to appropriately prepare students for the industry.

Program Achievement and Accreditation

The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities granted the Computer Engineering program Level 2 accreditation from May 2020 to May 2025. (PAASCU).

Beginning in 2003, the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted HAU autonomous status, which the University maintains to this day. Several HAU academic programs are globally accredited.

HAU was certified by the International Organization for Standardization in 2019, and re-accredited in 2020, for its quality management system, which includes academic programs as well as support services in basic and higher education. In addition, the University is one of just a few higher education institutions in the country to have received the Philippine Quality Award.

CPECB Inc. has successfully launched its certification program for Certified Computer Engineers and Professional Computer Engineers. Its plans to grant certificate holds to have government recognition is on process and soon to be recognized as ASEAN engineers.

PLOS, ISLOS AND PEOS

Integrated Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLOs) in Computer Engineering

The 7 proficiencies instituted by the University serve as the bases in establishing the BS Computer Engineering Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) and Program Outcomes (POs). The Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLOs) are aligned to these set of objectives and provide direction in the deployment of the Computer Engineering program. They are:

  • Communication – A Computer Engineering student must be able to communicate effectively and confidently in a range of contexts and for many different audiences.
  • Valuing and Ethical Reasoning – A Computer Engineering student must be able to assess their own ethical values and the social context of problems, recognize ethical issues in a variety of settings, think about how different ethical perspectives might be applied to ethical dilemmas and consider the ramifications of alternative actions.
  • Critical and Creative Thinking – A Computer Engineering student must be able to generate ideas, designs, systems or information with resourcefulness, imagination, insight, originality, aesthetic judgment, and a risk-taking approach to meet current and emerging needs of society.
  • Civic and Global Learning – A Computer Engineering student must be able to work to make a difference in the life of others in his/her community that improve the quality of life for those in need.
  • Applied and Collaborative Learning – A Computer Engineering student must be able to work in teams that constructs and applies knowledge, concepts, theories, and generalizations to make meaning and communicate as a team to solve engineering problems that will enhance the quality of life in his/her community.
  • Aesthetic Engagement – A Computer Engineering must be able to actively participate in the appreciative process that critically reflects on problems and issues to shape ideas and solutions that contribute to a better understanding of the wider-world.
  • ICT Literacy –A Computer Engineering must be able to use digital technology, communications tools, and/or networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information in order to function in a knowledge society that provide newer, better and quicker ways to people to interact, communicate and gain access.

Computer Engineering Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Within a few years after graduation, the graduates of BS Computer ENgineering program should have:
