GRADUATE SCHOOL

History

Holy Angel Academy opened on June 5, 1933 in the old convent of the Holy Rosary Parish Church in Angeles. It had 32 high school freshmen, plus 25 sophomores, 13 juniors and eight seniors who had transferred from another high school across town

On December 6, 1961, Holy Angel Academy became Holy Angel College (HAC).

In 1965, the Graduate School opened, with Dr. Lourdes Reyes as first Dean. It offered MA in Education major in Elementary Education.

In 1979, Mamerto Nepomuceno became the President of Holy Angel College. On December 4, 1981, the school was granted university status. Mamerto Nepomuceno was installed as first University President. The Archbishop of San Fernando, Oscar V. Cruz, declared HAU a Catholic university.

In 2006, Dr. Arlyn Sicangco-Villanueva succeeded Bernadette Nepomuceno, who resigned. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo formally swore her in on February 1, 2007. The same year, PAASCU granted a Level I accredited status to the Hospitality Management program, a candidate status to Elementary Education, Master in Education and Master of Business Management programs. CHED declared the University's Information and Communications Technology program a center of development, and the pioneer Nursing graduates also scored an impressive passing rate in the government licensure exam.

In 2017, HAU introduced pioneering and cutting-edge graduate programs: Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Leadership for a Sustainable Economy program or Green MBA, Professional Science Master's (PSM) in Cybersecurity, and Master of Arts in Communication.

The Graduate School envisions itself to be one of the centers of excellence in graduate education and research in the Asia Pacific Region that will produce graduates who are role model catalysts for countryside development in the fields of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Information Technology, Engineering and Nursing education

Mission

The Graduate School offers accessible quality graduate education and research experiences that transforms professionals, practitioners, industry leaders into persons of conscience, competence and compassion, community, and societal responsibility, leadership and scholarship and global citizenship.

Objectives

To realize the vision of the Graduate School, the following objectives must be achieved:

  1. Offer courses which are dynamic and responsive to changing global needs and abreast with current trends;
  2. Build and maintain a pool of research-oriented and competent faculty members who are experts in their field of specialization;
  3. Produce graduates who are influential leaders of society imbued with the highest moral and ethical standards;
  4. Provide an atmosphere that is professional and conducive to learning which nurtures a culture that promotes excellence, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and life long learning;
  5. Play an advocacy role in academic excellence, research undertakings and community service; andPlay an advocacy role in academic excellence, research undertakings and community service; and
  6. Participate actively in community outreach projects through the allocation of knowledge and skills as well as the execution of research capabilities.
