Considering the devastating effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most important aspects that we need to take care of is our mental health. Mr. Jayvee G. Tamondong, Industrial-Organizational Behavior Consultant of Espada Psychological Consultancy and Part-time Lecturer III at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, shares that “amidst this pandemic, it is also important to maintain a mental health hygiene.
While doctors and nurses are in the frontlines of the medical field, psychologists and other mental health professionals are responding to the rise in psychosocial needs. After all, our mental health is just as important as our physical health. When it comes to the workplace, employees who are mentally healthy and well are better able to maximize their competencies and, in turn, improve organizational health and boost business performance”. As a consultant, one of Jayvee’s tasks is ensuring that a positive connection between his clients and their employees is maintained by developing various programs targeting employee performance and growth, as well as designing policies and procedures for human resources departments. He works alongside psychologists, and applies mental health and well-being concepts in the workplace.
Both a high school (2002) and a college graduate at Holy Angel University, Jayvee earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree in 2007 and awarded as Most Outstanding Psychology Student an award given to a graduating student under College of Arts and Sciences. He was active with various school organization and even served as President of Psychology Society for the school year 2005-2006 an official organization for Psychology Students. He shares that “HAU provided me the foundation I needed and molded me who am I today because of the experiences I learned as a student from high school to college”.
“HAU contributed a lot to where I am now, and I will be forever grateful,” Jayvee said. HAU has taught him the discipline and just like what his professors always taught and showed them was to “always give help with an extra mile” both in his academics and extra-curricular activities when he was still a student. That helped him a lot as soon as he landed his first job right after graduation and up to now with every organization he worked with.
As for his message to the students of today, “learn to dream and make sure to reach for it. Never forget the values the university had thought us and make them as your guiding principles”.
At present, Jayvee is on his final stage of his thesis writing at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila with the degree of Master of Arts in Psychology major in Industrial Psychology.
