July 30, 2026
The Electronics Communication Engineering (ECE) Program, in collaboration with the University Research Office (URO) and the Technology Business Incubation and Knowledge, Innovation, and Technology Transfer Office (TBI-KITTO), conducted a Prior Art Search Seminar for students enrolled in ECEDESIGN1 on July 21 at APS 109.
URO Director Dr. Richard Figueroa introduced students to the fundamentals of prior art searching and its role in the development of innovative, research-based capstone projects.
TBI-KITTO Head and Industrial Engineering Chairperson Engr. Edward Lacson discussed the fundamentals of prior art, the different types of patent searches, patent databases, and practical search strategies that enable researchers and innovators to assess existing technologies before pursuing new developments.
The seminar enabled students to understand the importance of conducting state-of-the-art and novelty searches as part of the engineering design process.
