HAU-SEd hosts 1st RegCon for pre-service teachers

The Eduk Council of the School of Education (SEd) of Holy Angel University has successfully held its first-ever virtual Central Luzon Regional Convention for Teacher Education Students (RegCon) on February 16-18. The convention was participated in by approximately 5,000 pre-service teachers from 22 participating Teacher-Education Institutions (TEIs) in Region 3.
In line with its theme of “Upgrading Pre-Service Teachers’ TPACK Amidst Challenges in Education”, the convention highlighted the relevance of technological, pedagogical and content knowledge (TPACK) in solving current educational issues, particularly in light of the pandemic that has significantly affected the teaching and learning process. Among the activities during the convention were the Battle of the Brains, Teaching Demonstration Competition, and Teaching-based IM-Making Competition.
The secondary events included the Gawad Aninag with the theme “Balintataw”, and a webinar for voters’ education dubbed as “Alisto, Pilipino: Mapanuri at matalinong pagkonsumo ng impormasyon bilang rehistradong botante”. These events were spearheaded by The Reflection, The Social Studies Circle (TSSC), and Kapisanan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Filipino (KAMFI).
The three-day convention culminated with the virtual awarding ceremony of the winning participants and schools through Zoom Conference and Facebook Live Stream. The Don Honorio Ventura State University (Bacolor Campus) and the Pampanga State Agricultural University garnered the RegCon 2022 Overall Champion Award. Additionally, Tarlac State University bagged the 1st Runner-up Award while Angeles University Foundation received the Overall 2nd Runner-up award.
The Holy Cross College Institute of Professional Teacher Education earned the Overall Champion Award for the RegCon Secondary Events, alongside Bulacan Agricultural College Institute of Education Student Council and Don Honorio Ventura State University (Bacolor Campus) as second and third overall champions, respectively.
The convener of RegCon 2022, Mr. Abelardo ‘Jun’ Cortez, Jr., extended his gratitude to the organizing committees and to the participating pre-service teachers. He emphasized that “…We were able to prove ‘Eduk tayo na mahusay at kayang tumugon at palayain ang sarili sa hamon ng panahon. Para sa bata at para sa bayan,” (“…We are already able to prove ‘We are teacher-education students who are exceptionally great, and can respond and free ourselves from the challenge of time. For the youth and for the country.”)
The major sponsors for the event were Dr. Carl Balita, Carl E. Balita Review Center, CBRC Pampanga, and MelTap Review Center. Other sponsors were JMR Antigo Construction and Engineering Services, and Busan PH.
Meanwhile, CLTV 36 was the Primary Media Partner while Silliman University Teacher Education Student Council was the Major media partner. The Bicol University College of Education-College Student Council and Philippine Normal University-Mindanao Student Government were the Minor media partners.
