Tokyo, Japan - The International Conference on ASEAN-JAPAN Cybersecurity Community (IC-AJCC), held from October 5th to 6th, 2023, marked a significant moment in the journey of cybersecurity collaboration between Japan and ASEAN countries. As both regions celebrated the 50th anniversary of their friendship and cooperation, this conference provided a vital platform for experts from industry, government, and academia to come together and discuss the pressing challenges and future prospects of cybersecurity in the region.

Dr. Marlon Tayag, the Dean of the School of Computing at Holy Angel University in the Philippines, participated in a panel interview during the conference, where he shared his insights on the critical issue of "Developing Cybersecurity Human Resources." During his talk, Dr. Tayag showcased the Cybersecurity Curriculum of Holy Angel University's School of Computing, highlighting how it was developed to meet the industry's evolving needs.

Dr. Tayag's participation in the panel interview brought into focus a pressing issue in the cybersecurity sector – the widening gap between the available workforce and the specialized skills required to navigate the complex landscape of cyber threats. He underscored the pivotal role that academia plays in bridging this gap and preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

During his talk, Dr. Tayag  showcased the Cybersecurity Curriculum of Holy Angel University's School of Computing. He explained how this curriculum was meticulously developed in close collaboration with industry partners to ensure that graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the cybersecurity field. This curriculum was designed not just to impart theoretical knowledge but also to provide students with hands-on experience and practical skills that are directly applicable in real-world scenarios.

Dr. Tayag highlighted another significant development during his talk – Holy Angel University's collaboration with USAID STRIDE to offer a Professional Science Master's program in Cybersecurity. This program further bridges the gap between academia and industry by providing students with the opportunity to gain advanced knowledge and skills directly relevant to the cybersecurity industry's needs. It reflects the commitment of both the university and USAID STRIDE to prepare a highly skilled cybersecurity workforce.

IC-AJCC, celebrating its 50th year, continues to play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between Japan and ASEAN countries in the field of cybersecurity. The conference provides a unique space for cybersecurity communities to engage in meaningful communication and enhance public-private collaboration.

The 2023 International Conference on ASEAN-JAPAN Cybersecurity Community showcased the importance of collaboration between nations, industries, and academia in addressing the challenges of the cybersecurity landscape. Dr. Marlon Tayag's insights during the panel interview and the showcasing of Holy Angel University's cybersecurity curriculum and educational initiatives serve as a call to action for stakeholders in the ASEAN region and beyond.
