Assistant Professor and Nursing Chairperson Noriel Calaguas, MSHSA, RN, was chosen out of over 70 research papers submitted to the 34th Annual Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) conference for oral presentation. He was invited to participate in the in-person event in Washington, DC (USA) to present his study titled "Views on Sexuality Following an HIV Diagnosis: A Q-Methodology Analysis." Due to the evolving Covid-19 situation, he decided not to proceed with in-person attendance, opting to submit a video recording of his presentation instead.
The nursing chairperson's research revolves around improving awareness and understanding of the various health and wellness issues of Filipinos living with HIV/AIDS. Assistant Professor Calaguas serves as a local consultant and resource person for various HIV/AIDS-related projects and programs at the regional and national levels.
ANAC is the leading nursing specialty association for nurses working in HIV/AIDS around the world. The theme of the 34th ANAC conference was "A call to action", which aimed to shed light on the effects of the dual pandemic (Covid-19 and HIV) has had on individuals, families, communities, and health system at large. He described his acceptance to the premier conference as a significant professional accomplishment.
Assistant Professor Calaguas, who teaches nursing research courses at the undergraduate nursing program, hopes that his students find inspiration and motivation to engage in research projects that they are passionate about to bring solutions to longstanding societal issues.
