The Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) has granted Holy Angel University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) a provisional Level 2 accreditation which is effective until March 23, 2022. This status is awarded within less than a year of being granted renewal of its Level 1 accreditation last June 09, 2020. Furthermore, the Committee on Standards and Accreditation of PHREB is giving six months to submit additional documents to qualify for a full three-year Level 2 accreditation status.
The Level 2 accreditation status is the highest level that HAU can get being a university without an academic medical center. As Level 2-accredited research ethics committee (REC), the HAU-IRB can review all types of research except clinical trials. As a form of quality assurance, the presence of IRB provides an assurance to the HAU community that the faculty and students uphold the highest ethical standards in the conduct of research. To date, HAU-IRB is the only academic institution REC among the four accredited RECs in Region 3. The other PHREB-accredited RECs in the region are from DOH-hospitals namely, Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital, Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, and Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (Nueva Ecija).
