The School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) commenced its 5-year Community Service Extension Project, in coordination with the Office of the Community Extension Services (OCES) last March 16, 2021. The eight departments (Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, General Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering) under SEA visited Angeles Elementary School (AES) and Dr. Clemente N. Dayrit Sr. Elementary School. There are 60 participants from the SEA Admin and Faculty, non-teaching personnel (NTP) and professionals, who actively contributed to the said community extension project. The members of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) Pampanga Chapter, headed by its president, Engr. Bryan B. De Los Reyes were also present to support the School’s Project.
The teams were assisted, in communication with the Department of Education (DEPED) Region III Schools Division of Angeles City, by Ms. Edna V. Tongol, School Head of AES, Ms. Nenita H. Jorquia, School Head of the Dr. Clemente N. Dayrit Sr. Elementary School and their respective teachers and staff. The admin, faculty and staff of the two DEPED schools welcomed and generously helped the SEA team in the conduct of the activity.
The Architecture, Civil and General Engineering Programs were tasked to measure the dimensions of the existing buildings, which in turn will be converted into Computer-aided drawings (CAD). The As-Built plans (Floor Plans and Site Plan) which will be produced from these activities will be then used by the Electrical and Electronics and Communications Engineering Programs in the production of Electrical plans and Fire and Detection Alarm System (FDAS) Design, respectively. On the other hand, the Mechanical Engineering Program conducted Water System Assessment. The Computer Engineering Program inspected the existing Computer units and the Industrial Engineering Program performed further needs assessment in the school assigned to them.
The SEA team intends to return to the two schools to finish the tasks. The next activities will likewise focus on the completion of the building measurements for encoding/drawing. Furthermore, the students from the Architecture, CE and General Engineering Department will aid in the production of these as-built plans as part of their community extension services.
SEA aims to continually conduct this activity for the next 5 years in all Public Schools in Angeles City. The School believes that engaging everyone in the community extension projects enables the admin, faculty, NTPs and students acquire further life skills, knowledge, creates bond to the community served, and improves social awareness and responsibility.
