Holy Angel University – School of Engineering and Architecture congratulates its Team Project Kasawayan - Industrial Engineering students for bagging the 1st-runner up award in the 2020 Enactus Business Innovation Idea Challenge (BIIC) during the online awarding ceremony on December 5. The team is composed of the following students: Aaron Jairus Santos, Maria Clarisse Santos, Kursten Zechariah Layda Arsenia, Kian Balatbat, and the team presenters, Ryan Valencia, Elad Aquino, and Arrelle M. Nulud.
Mindanao State University was declared as champion and De La Salle University Manila as the 2nd runner up.
Project Kasawayan utilizes natural resources such as Cassava and Bamboo, both abundant in Sapangbato, Porac, and several barangays in Mabalacat City, as excellent materials in producing various products such a dextrin, a cassava starch-based adhesive, biomass briquette, bamboo cord protector, and activated carbon granules effective for water filtration.
The project aims to use the available resources in the area, promote the use of local/raw materials from Pampanga, and provide an environmentally sustainable livelihood for its Aeta inhabitants.
The 2020 Enactus Philippine BIIC is designed to provide a platform which aims to recognize university teams who have viable business innovation ideas that (1) will provide solution to pressing social, economic or environmental problems, (2) demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership, (3) promote business and innovation, and (4) create a significant impact in terms of improving the lives of chosen target audience while addressing one or more of the 17 UN Social Development Goals (“SDGs”). The challenge was open to active Enactus teams and teams from all colleges and universities around the Philippines that are willing to create their own Enactus teams.
This month, they will be trained and mentored by Encephalon Holy Angel University - Technology Business Incubator, and Enactus Philippines for the implementation of the project to be funded by Enactus Philippines.
