December 22, 2018
Holy Angel University will soon go into a holiday break so that we may celebrate the Christmas holiday, rejuvenate, and welcome the New Year 2019.
During the holidays, we ask you to join us in thanking God for all the blessings that Holy Angel University has received during this year 2018. To name a few, we began the 2018/19 school year with the designation of Holy Angel University as having the first ACPHA-accredited hospitality and tourism management school in the Philippines—the second in the ASEAN, and the third in Asia. We started delivering our graduate programs in business and education in the Calabarzon Region, expanding the scope of our institutional commitment to countryside development. Since the start of this school year, 14 of our faculty and staff have received their graduate degrees: four master’s and ten doctoral degrees. We now have an approved University Policy on Corporate Social Responsibility that, I believe, is the only such HEI policy which is based on the framework of ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility. We end the year with an international affirmation of our commitment to educational quality and organizational excellence with the upgrading of our 2016 Philippine Quality Award to the 2018 Global Performance Excellence Award by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization.
We are all about students. The ultimate evidence of our institutional quality and effectiveness is the success of our graduates once they start engaging the outside world. The exemplary performance of our graduates in professional licensure examinations, national competitions, and the workplace shows that we are moving in the right direction. We celebrate our collective accomplishments as we strive for greater academic quality and organizational excellence, to become an authentic instrument for countryside development, to be a great university to work for, and to serve as a role model of faithful Catholic education. God has entrusted to us many gifts – unmerited gifts that we received solely as a result of His grace and goodness – and we acknowledge that those gifts have made these accomplishments possible.
For most of us, the Christmas holiday season is a time to rekindle family traditions or create new ones. Whatever way you choose to spend the gift of time that comes with the holidays, we wish you good health, the joy and comfort of moments with family and friends, and the sense of optimism and energy that the holiday break provides. Yet many of our countrymen are not as fortunate as they may have lost a loved one, they may not have a roof over their heads, or they may be wondering about whether they will have another meal. We ask you to join us in prayer for the upliftment of our less fortunate countrymen.
I ask you to join me in a special prayer for our university’s resiliency as we address the new challenges of a new year. Working together, we commit to continue to transform our students into persons of conscience, competence, and compassion—all for God’s greater glory. Please allow me to close by sharing with you our students’ rendition of the “Hallelujah Chorus” (Rev. 11:15, 19:6, 19:16) from Handel’s “Messiah,” which is our talent scholars’ gift to the university community and a testament to our university’s investment in the performing arts. https://youtu.be/frwhEl-nP8I
On behalf of the trustees of Holy Angel University and of my family, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Laus Deo Semper!
"The true gift for us is Jesus, and like him we want to be a gift for others. And since we want to be a gift to others, we exchange gifts, as a sign, as a sign of this attitude that Jesus teaches us: He, sent by the Father, was a gift for us, and we are gifts for others." -- Pope Francis, December 2017
