HAU HS Batch 1964 Marks Golden Anniversary with Donation to the University Endowment Fund

The members of the Holy Angel University HS Class 1963-1964 (“The Astronauts”) returned home and “touched down” at the University Campus to celebrate their 50thanniversary with a Golden Jubilee Reunion and Alumni Homecoming on February 8, 2014.

Highlighting the event was the ceremonial presentation by HS Batch 1964, led by Mr. Reynaldo Simeon, HS Batch 1964 Golden Jubilee Overall Chairman, Mr. Rosby Calma, Mr. Rene Henson, and Mrs. Jesusa Lim-Tayag, of its legacy donation of P100,000to the University Endowment Fund.

The actual check donation was handed over by the batch officers to Dr. Arlyn S. Villanueva, University President, ahead of the reunionduring a courtesy visit with the latter.The Endowment Fund provides financial support to the school's various scholarship programs.

“The Astronauts” kicked off thehomecoming celebration with visits to the Center for Kapampangan Studies Gallery and Museum, the Manansala Museum, and the newest structure on campus, the Peter G. Nepomuceno Center for Professional Development, a 9-storey building which will be blessed and formally inaugurated during the Founder’s Day activities set on March 7, 2014.

In a speech after the Holy Mass which she attended at the University Chapel with the Golden Jubilarians, Dr. Villanueva thanked HAU HS Batch 1964 for its generous support and contribution. She also praised the batch members for taking care of one another through the years.

Bearing torches and candles, the alumni walked in procession to theUniversity Piazza’s Holy Guardian Angel Statue where they sang the Holy Angel Hymn. The campus landmark is particularly close to the hearts of the batch members, having been donated by their classmatesDr. Rey Franco and Mrs. Rosario Malonzo-Franco and Mr. Rene Henson and Mrs. Clarita de Guzman-Henson to the University on December 10, 2010.

Mrs. Avelina Espiritu-Evangelista, a former high school teacher, addressed the batch members during the evening program which was celebrated with dinner, music from the 1960s, parlor games, songs, dancing, and inspirational messages from Mr. Simeon, Mr. Henson, Dr. Franco and Mr. Calma.

The members also watched an audio-visual presentation on their Alma Mater’s history and on the University’s current thrusts. They also made a trip back in time viewing a photo collage of their high school days, past activities, and reunion parties.

Mrs. Carolina dela Cruz-Patarata and Mr. Perfecto Canlas, Jr. emceed the reunion program.
