CEA at 50

Fifty years after the then College of Engineering, now College of Engineering & Architecture (CEA), establishment on 23 July 1963, the college still continues to carry the University’s flagship programs.

In its golden anniversary celebration, CEA has adopted the theme: “CEA at 50: Accelerating our Engines Towards our Crusades of Producing Skilled and Globally Competitive Engineering and Architecture Graduates.”

Various activities that ran for a week include hosting of fora about the state of the environment and holding of contests, like junk art making and essay writing competitions, which are geared towards finding ways to address environmental problems. The launching of the “A Boteful World: A CEA Green Project” marked the manifestation of the commitment of CEA students to live up with the college mission of contributing to the improvement of the quality of life and the preservation of the environment.

The very first Round Table Conference with Alumni, Board Topnotchers and Passers was also conducted where the guest speakers shared their experiences and best practices to selected 4th to 5th year students. Another Round Table Conference which the college was hosting for the 3rd time with industry partners was also conducted to solicit from them what their prospects are and how the college may fill in their needs.

On the night of the CEA’s birthday celebration, the newly-renovated SH Garden was blessed and a mini-parade within the campus then ensued. The Online Board Exam Review System was also launched, followed by the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement of the P1 Million Endowment Fund donated by the CEA Alumni Association.

The night ended with the sharing of a sumptuous meal where students and faculty members and staff ate together in “boodle fight” manner to signify their eagerness as one family to combat the challenges that the college faces in its life after 50.
