Appreciation Program for Principals

Holy Angel University as an institution of higher learning gives due recognition to students with outstanding academic performance. It also recognizes the fact that the feeder schools are partners in this recognition. Thus, the university gave scholarships to the honor graduates who satisfied the highest academic standards of their schools and the entrance requirements of the university.

For school year 2012-2013, there are two hundred eleven (211) entrance scholars who are in the Honors’ Class, Juan D. Nepomuceno scholars and Archbishop Pedro Santos scholars in the high school department. In the college department, there are fifty-one valedictorians, 33 salutatorians and three hundred nine-one upper 10% of the graduates who are entrance scholars of the university.

The scholarship enjoyed by our entrance scholars is a way of recognizing the efforts of the principals in facilitating the enrolment of their best students to Holy Angel University. As a sign of gratitude of the university, an Appreciation Program to the Principals of the feeder schools was held last 26 July 2012 at the Academic Hall of Saint Joseph Building. It was a simple program attended by the entrance scholars and the principals and school representatives.

The message of Dr. Arlyn S. Villanueva, the university president, during the appreciation program:

Thank you for coming to this program which we prepared especially for you. It’s a very simple program. We tailor-fit it for individuals and institutions that we want to thank, for their continued faith in our mission to provide quality education.

Despite the general downtrend being experienced by colleges and universities across the country, Holy Angel has continued to experience an upswing in its enrollment in the last several years. This school year, we posted our highest college enrollment ever, as well as highest combined enrollment since the 1980s. I would like to point out that we are only reaping the fruits of reforms which began in 1985 when Sister Josefina Nepomuceno became our University President.

Many of our alumni are now faculty members and administrators of various public and private schools across Pampanga, and I am sure by their words and example they project a good image of their alma mater which contributes to the good reputation and good enrollment that we are experiencing now. To them I would like to express the gratitude of the University.

Aside from quantity, we also take pride in the improvement of the quality of students who enroll at Holy Angel. The big number of our Entrance Scholars, the valedictorians, salutatorians and upper 10% graduates from various public and private schools, is the proof that Holy Angel is now the school of choice even for those who, in previous years, preferred to invest their future in top schools in Manila and Baguio. We are happy that you have finally realized that we have schools in Pampanga that are as good as the very best schools in the country. It was the smart thing to do not to risk the emotional and psychological effects of separation from family and friends, as well as suffer the financial burden of studying in Manila, while you pursue your college degree. If you can get quality education right here for half the price and minus the stress of living far from home, why still go to Manila and Baguio?

So to our Entrance Scholars, thank you for investing your future with us. This is just the beginning of your journey to your dreams, and we hope that our school, which is now your school, will give you the environment, the opportunities and the services that you need to reach those dreams. Our faculty, our non-teaching staff and our administrators, including your President, are all here rooting for you, and making themselves available if you need their help. Please do not hesitate to see them.

Holy Angel is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. This is the school that has survived and triumphed over the worst natural and man-made calamities that could ever befall a school, and yet it is the determination, hard work and team spirit of its people, as well as your enduring faith in us, that have kept it going and riding high after 80 long years. Your parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents have probably studied here, too, so you are merely continuing a long family tradition. And so we hope that this tradition, this partnership, will last many more generations.
