DILG Sec. Robredo Speaks on Good Governance

On March 22, 2011, an estimated audience of five hundred local officials from the Angeles City government, police and military sectors, academicians, officers and members of nongovernmental organizations, local press, religious and lay trooped to the Holy Angel University Theatre for a lecture-forum with no less than the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Hon. Jesse Robredo as guest speaker. With the theme, “LGU-NGO Partnership: A Key Element for Success towards Transparency and Accountability,” this lecture-forum was made possible through the partnership of Holy Angel University and the Holy Rosary Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Politics (PPCRP)

Sec. Robredo, whose exemplary accomplishments in local governance earned him fourteen awards including a Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 2000, emphasized the need for co-operation between the local government units and the nongovernmental organizations in ascertaining the prevalence of transparency and accountability in the local government units. He also underscored the necessity to come up with measurable indicators in tracking the performance of public service delivery.

Also present during the lecture-forum were Bishop Pablo Virgillo David of Holy Rosary Parish, Holy Angel University president Dr. Arlyn S. Villanueva, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan, and Angeles DILG Director Mirvy Apostol.

This lecture-forum is the first of a series of fora to be conducted as part of HAU and PPCRP’s joint advocacy for good governance.
