Coalition Against Rabies Disease – Prevention and Organized Intervention (CARD – POI) - September 28, 2009, 8:00am

The Holy Angel University will be co – sponsoring the Induction of Officers and members of the Coalition Against Rabies Disease – Prevention and Organized Intervention (CARD – POI) on September 28, 2009, 8:00 AM at the University Theater, SFJ Bldg. Incidentally, September 28 is World Rabies Day.

CARD – POI was formed out of the coalition’s desire to help achieve the objective of the City Mayor’s program of concern “BANTAY SARADO AND ALAGA MONG ASO – TOWARDS A RABIES – FREE ANGELES CITY by 2011,” and also in support of rabies – Free Philippines 2020 and share this advocacy with neighboring towns and cities. POI was initially set up to honor the memory of a child with the nickname “Poi” who died of rabies infection in December 2008. Through CARD – POI, we envision the establishment of a modern small animal hospital, a small animal shelter facility (dog pound), an animal bit treatment center and offer services for free to the entire region of Central Luzon. The Angeles City Government plans to fund the medicines that will be needed. Hopefully, other local government units will follow.

The Holy Angel University – College of Nursing will start campaigning for people empowerment that promotes the spirit of volunteerism as suggested by the World Health Organization – Food and Agriculture Organization (WHO – FAO). The campaign aims to achieve an 80% immunity level among the dog population in Angeles City. The faculty and students of the College of Nursing will work as partners to achieve this goal starting March 2009.
