June 21, 2008 One Beautiful Night at Holy Angel University with Jose Mari Chan

In his 41 years as a recording artist, singer and songwriter Jose Mari Chan’s outstanding success, is unprecedented in local recording history. He holds the record as the biggest selling recording artist in the history of Philippine pop music, accumulating more than 41 platinum in sales.


His “Constant Change” album was the first ever to be given The Diamond Record Award. His “Christmas In Our Hearts” has now reached the Double Diamond Record status (20 x platinum).


Jose Mari Chan has garnered several AWIT and KATHA nominations and have been given awards for ALBUM of the YEAR, RECORD of the YEAR, BEST JAZZ RECORDING, BEST CHRISTMAS SONG, BEST TRADITIONAL POP SONG and 2 CATHOLIC MASS MEDIA AWARDS. (AWIT AWARDS is the local equivalent of the GRAMMY AWARDS in the U.S. give by members of the recording industry. KATHA on the other hand is an organization of Philippine musical artists that give annual awards to their peers).


In 1974 he was awarded the TOYM as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines. He has also been honored with a Dangal Ng Musikang Pilipino Award by PARI (The Philippine Association of the Recording Industry), the Antonio C. Barreiro “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Metro Pop Foundation and a Dr. Jose P. Rizal Award for Excellence for 2006 by The Manila Times. The National Press Club has created a special annual Award for Outstanding Singer, Songwriters and named it after him. In December 2005 and in recognition of his outstanding record sales, ABS-CBN’s ASAP show gave Jose Mari Chan the first ever ELITE Platinum Award.


Over the years he has starred in more than 11 TV Specials spotlighting his words and music. As a concert star he has performed in major cities all over the Philippines. Abroad, he has headlined shows in New York’s Carnegie Hall, The Bellagio in Las Vegas, The Show Boat Casino in Atlantic City, The Silver Legacy Casino in Reno (Nevada), in Washington DC, Rhode Island, Cherry Hill (New Jersey), Chicago, Virginia, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, Los Angeles, Guam as well as in Vancouver and Toronto. He has also performed in London, Zurich, Vienna, Paris, Oslo and in various Asian cities like Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bandung, Hongkong and Jakarta.


His songs have also been recorded by the biggest names in Philippine music: Lea Salonga, The Company, Nora Aunor, Pilita Corrales, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, APO Hiking Society, Gary Valenciano, Joey Albert, Celeste Legaspi, Nonoy Zuniga, Anthony Castelo, Jaya, Janet Basco, Cherie Gil, Ima Castro, Tootsie Guevara, Tin Arnaldo, Cris Villongco and the Opera Band. His music has been performed in concerts by the Manila Chamber Orchestra as well as published in two volumes of songbooks entitled “Words and Music: Jose Mari Chan”. Abroad, his compositions have been recorded by the following foreign artists: KAMAHL (Australia), AARON KWOK (Taiwan), SANDY LAM (Hongkong), SALLY YEE (Hongkong, PAULA TSUI (Hongkong), YASUO T. (Japan) and TOMOMI AKIMOTO (Japan).


Jose Mari Chan’s album, “A Heart’s Journey,” won the 2003 AWIT AWARD for “Album of the Year”. His latest CD “Love Letters & Other Souvenirs” is a top seller, making him one of the most enduring artists in the country.


He is a businessman by profession, a singer-songwriter by avocation. Chairman and CEO of BISCOM, INC., the 3rd largest sugar company in the Philippines, and of the A.CHAN group of companies.


KARYLLE


Ana Karylle Padilla Tatlonghari, or simply Karylle, is a multi-faceted artist. She is a singer, songwriter, television and film actress, writer/columnist, commercial /celebrity endorser, dancer, and TV host. With her many appearances in network television, radio, concert, and the big screen, she is considered one of the most promising young talents today.


Karylle is the daughter of singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla and Dr. Modesto Tatlonghari. Known as The Enchanting Diva, she started later than most of her contemporaries in show business. She finished her studies before joining the entertainment industry. In 2002, she graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Communications Technology Management and she was also a recipient of the Dean’s Award for the Arts.


Karylle is a recording artist under Universal Records(Philippines). Her songwriting talent is showcased in her second album “ You Make Me Sing”. She wrote songs like “ Coz, I Love You” and “ Hiling”.


Year 2005 was a breakout year for Karylle. She landed one of the lead roles in GMA Network’s top rating fantasy series, Encantadia. She also guest-starred in several GMA Network shows including SIS, Eat Bulaga, Art Angel, Master Showman Presents, Bubble Gang, All Star k, Mobile Kusina, and Extra Challenge.


Karylle co-hosts the musical variety show SOP every Sunday. She is also a host of Pinoy Idol Extra. Karylle has received numerous awards and recognitions for her performances from prestigious groups such as MTV Philippines, Aliw Awards and Awit Awards, to name a few.
