CICT 5TH Round Table Conference

September 22, 2009, at Don Angustias Sicangco Hall, STL Building, the College of Information and Communications Technology held it’s 5th round table conference. A total of 62 Participants (30 from the Industry, 7 Students, 18 CICT Group, 7 HAU Administrators and Staff) spent time to discuss the qualities of an ICT graduate.

Dr. Jaime V. Cortez, AVP for Academic Affairs welcomed the guests and participants while Ms. Llonora M. Javier, CICT Practicum Coordinator introduced the guests and participants. The University President, Dr. Arlyn S. Villanueva, presented the long term strategic directions of HAU for SY 2008-2013 and the thrusts of the University for the SY 2009-2010, which include, Market Positioning, Systems and Procedures, Human Resources, Internationalization of the HAU, Academic Excellence, Human Research Program and Evangelization. Before the conference proper, Dean Ma. Teresa S. Salta presented the update on the recommendations of the previous roundtable conference as well as the actions taken.

During the conference proper representatives from the government educational supervising bodies presented their policies and thrusts, while company representatives provided the feedback on ICT graduates and on the skills set they need for hiring. All inputs and recommendations are noted for considerations in enhancing the curriculum, both in the general and professional programs, and in strengthening the practicum program.

Engr. Renato Santiago, AVP-ITSS, delivered the closing remarks by thanking all the participants for sharing their time and inputs. He stated that, “Through this roundtable conference we hope to continually improve academe-industry linkages by addressing the perceived gap of skills and knowledge mismatch between what our school produces as graduates and what industry expects as hirable job applicants”.

Mr. Joseph A. Esquivel served as the master of ceremony and Ms. Avigail P. Magbag and Jannet T. Redoban served as moderators. The conference was capped off with a hearty meal at the Casa Nena.
