The Annual Bigay Puso Prison Visit Project

The tasks were divided to different CBA organizations including the college student council and the CBA publication. The CSC-CBA was in charge of the collection and consultation of donations; the Junior Hotel and Restaurant Managers Association (JHRMA) for purchasing; the Management Society (ManSoc) for the distribution; the Philippine Association of Students in Office Administration (PASOA) for liturgy and packaging; the League of Tourism Students of the Philippines (LTSP) for the programme; the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) for auditing and preparing the financial statements and The Enterprise for the documentation of the event.

The mass headed by Fr. Tim Melizza started around 9:00 a.m. and was ordinated with worship songs performed by the Prison for Christ Music Ministry of Angeles District Jail (ADJ). It was immediately followed by series of games for the inmates, as well as performances from J-Movers and the Jail House Band of ADJ. The last part of the programme was the distribution of goods for the inmateswhich was done with the help of all students who participated.

After that, a short conversation between students and some of the inmates took place. One of the inmates named John was a 4th year BSBA HRM from our university. The 25-year old was about to graduate when he was caught taking prohibited drugs by an agent of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last October 4. His case, which is under Section 5 in relation to Article 26, Republic Act 9165, is non bailable and according to him, he will be imprisoned for about 1-5 years. He took up Marketing at Angeles University Foundation in 1999-2000. He was kicked out because of failing grades. He transferred at Holy Angel University in 2001 and took up Management for 4 years. In the year 2004, he took up HRM. In the same year, he became the President of Tau Gamma Phi until 2006.

According to him, he started taking prohibited drugs at the age of 13. At first, he admitted he enjoyed the sensation of taking drugs. And as the years passed by, he became dependent to drugs to the point that his body would not function well without it.

He also wishes to put a business dealing with construction suppliers and plans to work abroad. But above all these, he would like to make it up to the Lord first.
