2nd NICP Summit 2009

The Second National Information and Communication Technology Confederation of the Philippines (2nd NICP) Summit 2009 was held on November 5-7, 2009 at the Fontana Convention Center Clarkfield, Pampanga sponsored by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) together with the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), The Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations, and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP). The event was graced by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who talked about the governments initiated effort on 3 major areas, firtst, built up the telecommunications infrastructure and opened the market for internet phone calls, second, to ensure an appropriate policy and legal environment and finally, to support the growth of ICT in the development of human capital to close the digital divide. NICP Exhibitions were represented by different ICT companies nationwide that features various CICT initiatives and talks from key players in the BPO-IT industry.

ICT Track Sessions were held in the afternoon. There was also an ongoing BPO-IT talent caravan throughout the event which can strengthen the link between local talents with ICT industries.

The first day was attended by CICT 6Practicum students enrolled this semester and the second day was attended by the CICT students graduating this month of November together 2 faculty members, Ma. Allen Quiambao and Llonora M. Javier.

The 6Practicum students attended a track session which was about Human Capital Development. This is a project of the government that aims to solve the problems of digital divide in the Philippines by integrating ICT in education. The graduating students participated in the job fair sessions. They underwent written exams and interviews from hiring ICT companies.

In the afternoon of the second day, PSITE sponsored various competitions. The event was called “Tech Day of Fun and Play”. This was an entertaining activity that included Dance Competition, Costume Display (COSPLAY) and “Human Bingo”. Bernadine Ramos, a CICT 2nd year student won 3rd place in the Costume Display (COSPLAY) Contest. She represented the anime character “Naruto”. The Human Bingo Team, composed of mostly 2nd year CICT students, lost by a point, the last number on their card was unfortunately not drawn.
