DOST Executive Committee visits HAU

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) National Executive Council visited Holy Angel University last September 14, 2019 after their Policy and Planning Workshop held at Balanga, Bataan. HAU was chosen by DOST as one of the institutions to be visited in Pampanga because of the following reasons: HAU has various Research and Development projects funded by the Agency; HAU being a host of DOST’s Balik Scientist Program; and the establishment of the Encephalon, HAU’s Technology Business Incubator (TBI).

The DOST National Executive Council was led by the DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development, Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Ms. Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano, Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Assistant Secretaries and directors in the different divisions. Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director of Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (PCIEERD), where TBI is currently funded, was also present. The DOST Region III Director, Dr. Julius Caezar Sicat and DOST Pampanga Provincial Director Ms. Mary Michelle Quiambao were also present to show their support.

The one-hour visit was jampacked with events. Undersecretary Guevara addressed the university by being thankful with the university’s commitment to research and development and challenged the researchers to take it to the next level—commercialization. After which, Engr. Melani Cabrera, the Encephalon TBI Manager presented the TBI project establishment of HAU. It was proceeded by the presentation of School of Engineering and Architecture faculty Dr. Jaypee Pajarillaga’s consortium project called Severe Weather Amphibious Navigator (SWAN). Lastly, Balik-Scientist Engr. Leo Almazan presented his Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and accomplishments as a Balik-Scientist in the university. He also shared the recently approved Php 13M DOST granted project that will start by 2020. The visit was concluded by the closing remarks of Ms. Edna Marriza C. Santos, the Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, and then the site visit of the Executive Council to the Encephalon office and Engineering Laboratories.

The Executive Council visit marks the strong partnership between the university and the funding agency, DOST.
