CICT holds 1st Regional Conference on Cybersecurity

The first ever Regional Conference on Cybersecurity was successfully organized by Holy Angel University’s College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) on March 27, 2019 at the PGN Auditorium. Dubbed with the theme “Cybersecurity towards Resilient and Informed Societal Engagement (CyberSec RISE)”, the event was attended by more than 300 participants coming from Region 3 and nearby areas like Manila, Pangasinan, La Union, and Laguna.


The conference showcased the research and creative works of researchers and scholars from different sectors of the university and partner institutions including graduate and undergraduate students and faculty. It also featured the “Capture the Flag (CTF)” competition that focuses on practicing the knowledge and skills of Linux File, directory commands, NMAP and Network Forensics using PCAP Files.


One of the highlights of the conference are its resource speakers coming from the renowned software and IT companies NEM, Sutherland, RTI USA-ID Stride, and TrendMicro. These are Mr. Carl Maverick Pascual and Mr. Augusto Remillano from TrendMicro delivering the topics “From Brags to Riches: The Banking Trojan Story”; Mr. Julius Patrick Fresco, NEM, with the topic “Blockchain Technology in connection to Cybersecurity”; Mr. Genesis Diaz, Sutherland, with the topic “Information Security”; Mr. Raymond Almanon, TrendMicro, with the topic “Internet of Things (IoT) and the Need for Security”.


The Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Grace F. Tyler (Chairman, Metro Clark ICT Council and Philippine Rainmakers Startup Community Champion). The paper presentation was judged by Dr. Jenalyn G. Raviz (Faculty from the Computer Science Department, Technological Institute of the Philippines), Dr. Ace C. Lagman (Director of IT Department, FEU Institute of Technology), and Dr. Francisco D. Napalit (Dean of CICT, HAU).


The “Stochastic Approach in Two-Tier Encryption-Decryption Model” authored by Mary Ann Quioc, Francis Cambaya, and Jona Tibay was awarded the “Best Paper” and the HAU-School of Engineering and Architecture championed the Capture the Flag competition.
