A worldwide meet on community resilience for disasters to be held in Holy Angel University

Holy Angel University (HAU) will host on October 22 to 27 at the HAU campus the "Community Resilience for National Disaster" program of the Brown International Advanced Research Institute (BIARI) of USA's Brown University, with a press conference to be held on the last day of the meet.

The six-day meet is in joint cooperation with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), University of Nueva Caceres, University of Santo Tomas, and Jose Rizal University.

Angeles City Mayor Atty. Edgardo P. Pamintuan will give the welcome remarks, followed by the keynote speech of DOST (Department of Science and Technology) undersecretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr.

It will convene an interdisciplinary group of academics and practitioners, including experts like Brown University's Dr. Adam Levine and Seth Stulen and Harvard University's Dr. P. Gregg Greenough. It will also include Philippine and international organizations like the World Bank.

Other concerned groups involved in disaster works will likewise participate to develop a better understanding of community resilience in the context of the Philippine disaster rehabilitation and recovery framework based on global and local good practices and experiences from past disasters

Lectures, workshops and other activities will be grouped into sectoral themes. Issues that are across sectors, such as vulnerable groups, gender sensitivity, poverty, and the environment will also be discussed.

The conveners include Alfredo I. Ayala (chief executive officer of Ayala Corporation's AC Education), Dr. Luis María R. Calingo (president of Holy Angel University), Dr. Adam C. Levine (associate professor of emergency medicine at Brown University), and Guillermo M. Luz (chief resilience officer and advisor of PDRF).
