SHTM’s ‘Event Management’ classes organize culminating activities

Part of Holy Angel University’s mission statement is to transform its students into persons of Conscience, Competence and Compassion. The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) found an interesting way to outline this through their Events and Conventions Management (HEVENTSCON) classes. Last September 17, 2018, SHTM staged these culminating activities: conference, benefit event, beauty pageant and social events.

One of these was called “Elevate: Lunch for a Cause.” It aimed to give support to the Share-A-Meal project of the Office of Student Services and Affairs (OSSA). Share-A-Meal is a campaign launched to provide free meals to HAU students who cannot afford to buy their own. At the end of the episode, SHTM students were able to donate PHP 10,000.00 from this initiative alone.

Another HEVENTSCON culminating activity is the “Right Click, Building Influence through Social Media”, which featured online personalities and influencers. With the term ‘millennial’ as a hot topic and their inclination to social media as a notable theme of current discussions, the goal of the conference is to expose students on the utilization and maximization of the benefits brought about by the emergence of social media. The influencers who graced the crowd were Mr. Speaks, Nate Punzalan, Benedict Cua, Aaron Palabyab, and Jericho Arceo. Delegates were primarily senior high school students from the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood and Accountancy-Business -Management strands, and several college students.

In a country where a lot of Filipinos are pageant enthusiasts, the “Epitome of Flairs: the Search for Mr. and Ms. SHTM 2018” was a highly anticipated event. At the end of the evening, Gabrielle Jolo Gaviola and Chloe Lacsina, both Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management seniors were crowned as Mr. and Ms. SHTM 2018, respectively. Happening simultaneous with the pageant is the “Fashion, Arts, Music and Poetry” event for the benefit of Veronica Ruba, an alumna of SHTM diagnosed with breast cancer. It was an evening of music, poetry readings and a fashion show featuring the works of a renowned Kapampangan designer, Philip Torres.
