HAU’s Big History Gets Known in the 3rd Int’l Big History Association Conference

The 3rd International Big History Association (IBHA) Conference was held at the idyllic Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Two of HAU’s Administrators – Vice President for Academic Affairs Alma Espartinez and School of Arts and Sciences Dean Edmond Maniago – were fortunate to make a name for Holy Angel University by presenting their Big History paper.

Dr. Espartinez’s Crossing the Threshold of Hope unravels the concept of hope from the past, to the present and to the remote future. It provides a philosophical meaning of hope from its original concept of self-interestedness to that which is purely beyond the self. Dr. Maniago’s Opening the Doors of a Higher Education Institution to Big History reflects on the implementation of Big History courses as part of the First Year Experience Program at Holy Angel University.

It was to every delegate’s amazement that Holy Angel University offers a six-unit course in Big History for around 3,500 First Year students. The conference ran from July 25-29, 2018 with more than 250 delegates coming from all over the world. The giants of Big History – David Christian and Emlyn Koster – were the plenary speakers in the Opening Session. The 2020 IBHA Conference will be held in India – the first Asian country to host the conference.
