HAU to host 1st Big History Int’l Research Conference

True to the commitment of Holy Angel University in providing relevant projects for the holistic development of the community, the institution is hosting the 1st ever Big History International Research Conference on May 22-25, 2108.


The conference will bring together experts in the field for a comprehensive overview of Big History. It is also an avenue to present multidisciplinary research which explores human existence.


Keynote speakers are:


Dr. Mojgan Behmand
She currently serves as Dean of General Studies at Dominican, having previously held a number of administrative positions at Dominican: Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Director of the General Education program, and Director of Faculty Development. She was co-founder of and the first director of Dominican’s First Year Experience "Big History" program in 2010 and a creator and co-editor of the book Teaching Big History.


Dr. John F. Haught
A distinguished Research Professor, Georgetown University, Washington DC. He was formerly Professor in the Department of Theology at Georgetown University (1970-2005) and Chair (1990-95). His area of specialization is systematic theology, with a particular interest in issues pertaining to science, cosmology, evolution, ecology, and religion. He has recently published his book entitled The New Cosmic Story: Inside Our Awakening.


Dr. Daniel Hauser
A Professor of Theology at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. He has been teaching for over twenty-five years. In addition to teaching at the university, Dr. Hauser teaches in the diaconate program for the diocese of Joliet. Dr. Hauser took his undergraduate studies at Marquette University, received a master’s degree from Harvard Divinity School and his doctorate from Marquette University. This first book Church, Worship and History, is a discussion of the relationship of sacraments and the historicity of the faith of the Church.


The International Conference will form part in promoting the Big History integration in the University’s academic curriculum, the first of its kind in the country.
