SEA ranks 2nd in nationwide ‘Live Design Competition’

Four Architecture students from the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) emerged 2nd place in the Anthology Festival Live Design On The Spot Design Competition held last February 9-11 in Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Metro Manila. These students were Brylle Nicol Jhon Patiu, Lawrenze Halle Lacsamana, Jasper Bucud, and Simon Cheddy Laron.

The competition, entitled “Live Design” On The Spot Student Design Competition is a contest for the students of architecture schools from across the Philippines. The festival aimed to promote and practice social architecture and design in the Philippines and Southeast Asian region through a competition.

The competing teams were given 26 hours spread throughout the 3-day festival to complete the design challenge on-site. The challenge is to design a 1-hectare subdivision without roads, promoting walkability, sustainability and a socially responsive environment.

The Holy Angel University (HAU) team came up with a disaster-resilient community which is inspired by the Philippine heritage patterns with high regard to the Filipino identity, fostering closer relationships among neighbors. In order to promote flexibility, the team capitalized on the use of a modular house and cluster commons as configuration.

Aside from HAU, other participants were from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), University of Sto. Tomas, University of San Carlos, University of Mindanao, Technological Institute of the Philippines-QC, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, National University, Mapua University, Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology, Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), Bulacan State University and Angeles University Foundation.

Out of the 14 teams who competed, HAU ranked 2nd place while DHVTSU and DLS-CSB placed 1st and 3rd, respectively.
