Sapagka’t ang Diyos ang kumikilos sa inyo, upang inyong naisin at isagawa ang kanyang mabuting layunin. Filipos 2:13 (FSV)

For God is the one who for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work. Philippians 2:13 (NABRE)

Dear HAU community,

Happy New Year!

On this first work day of 2018, please allow me to take a brief moment to share my gratitude for your support over the past year, and to ask you to prayerfully consider how you might be a better contributing member of our community.

The coming of a new year is, for me, a time of rejuvenation and renewal – a time to recommit myself to the values we hold in common – our faith in Jesus Christ, our love for our families, and our dedication to our mission of transforming ourselves and the people we serve into persons of conscience, competence, and compassion.

As I reflect upon our many blessings, I also do so with the awareness that all is not well in our country. There are many whose condition makes it difficult for them to fully appreciate the blessings of family and faith. One out of four Filipinos (26.3%), including majority (59%) in Muslim Mindanao, live below the poverty line. There seems to be a growing number for whom an emergent reality is the “death of conscience,” quoting our immediate past pastor Bishop Ambo David. And, in this predominantly Catholic country, there are even some who seek to redefine human life as having a finite value, away from the sanctity of human life and the dignity of the human person – beliefs and norms that have sustained civilization for centuries.

This year is our opportunity to continue being a witness to the truth that our shared faith is not repressive, but is the key to a promising future. More than ever, our country needs devout leaders – those who regard their faith not only as their spiritual identity but also as the governing force in their daily lives. We at Holy Angel University are committed to developing these leaders. It is my hope that you will continue to stand with Holy Angel and resolve to be salt and light in the New Year.

Again, Happy New Year, and may God bless you all!

Laus Deo semper!
