Magalang-born and bred Oscar Balajadia, who graduated AB English from Holy Angel University, has won this year's National Book Award (Language Studies category) for his 1000-page magnum opus Capampangan Roots, published by the HAU Center for Kapampangan Studies (CKS). HAU also published his first book when he was a student of the College of Arts & Sciences back in 1989-1990, as well as his series on the Kapampangan language. The National Book Awards are given annually by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Manila Critics Circle (MCC). HAU-CKS has previously won ten (10) National Book Awards in categories as varied as history, science, poetry, professions, leisure, biography and translation. Balajadia, who is also known as Papa Osmubal, graduated MA in English Studies (major in Literature-Linguistics) with the highest honor “Excellent” from the Universidade de Macau in 2008 and acquired a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Education with the highest distinction “Excellent” from the Universidade de Sao Jose in 2013.
