Holy Angel University (HAU) delegates successfully completed the rigorous Big History training at the Dominican University of California on June 5-9, 2017. Big History is an emerging academic discipline which examines history from the Big Bang to the present. It examines long time frames using an interdisciplinary approach based on combining numerous disciplines from science and the humanities, and explores human existence in the context of this bigger picture.

Topics linking Big History in various disciplines are the main theme of the training. These include- A Day of Emerging Knowledge Universe, Stars, Literature, Philosophy, Archeo-Astronomy and Visuals as Lenses of Big History, Collective Learning and Beauty as Lenses of Big History, A Conversation on the Human Response to the Big History Narrative, The Evolution of Technology, The History of War and Peace, Music of War and Peace, Apocalypse and Popular Culture.

Big History is one of the responses of HAU on its call of fulfilling its Institutional Learning Outcomes in an interdisciplinary approach through Blended Liberal Education and Professional Courses teaching.

Dr. Alma Espartinez, Vice President for Academic Affairs, keeps her buoyancy on the implementation of Big History at HAU. “Big results, big leaps, big decisions, big steps, big history- I am very hopeful with this historic event for HAU faculty, they will be able to give back the best for our students”.

Further, Dr. Espartinez emphasized that Big History in HAU will be uniquely implemented as it will put together faith and science in consonance with the Cardinal Newman Society mandate.

The Big History soft implementation will be this 2nd semester. The project is funded through the Institutional Development and Innovation Grants (IDIG) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
