HAU, Teatru Kapampangan to stage new musical

A brand-new musical on the life and times of Juan D. Nepomuceno and his wife Teresa Gomez will premiere on March 5 with a gala show on March 8 at the Holy Angel University Theatre.

Written and directed by Andy Alviz and co-produced by Alviz' Teatru Kapampangan and Holy Angel University, “Juan & Nena Nepomusical” tells the story of the couple who helped transform Angeles town into a city through their unparalleled contributions to business, church, education and social life of Angeleños.

Juan D. Nepomuceno founded Holy Angel University, Angeles Electric Company, Angeles Ice Plant, Villa Teresa Subdivision, Nepo Mart, and other businesses that have influenced the everyday lives of Kapampangans and helped shape the destiny of an entire community.

His marriage to Teresa Gomez, descendant of a learned but feisty Spanish friar, produced 10 children including a Jesuit priest and a Benedictine nun, a pioneer top executive of the Ayala Corporation, a college dean at UP, and patriarch of a business empire.

"Truly an unforgettable couple," says Robby Tantingco, the University's VP for Student Affairs. "Their individual personalities, their romance, their Catholic values and their legacy deserve to be told and retold for generations to come."

Alviz, founder of ArtiSta. Rita and ImaArti and known for spearheading theatre and CD productions and other cultural initiatives, composed the musical's original songs and directed the cast which also includes HAU students. "Juan & Nena Nepomusical" will be staged on March 5 (Sat) at 7 p.m. and on March 8 (Tue) at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the University Theatre, Javier Building, Holy Angel University, Angeles City.
