HAU President off to US for alumni, La Naval events

HAU President Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo is flying to the United States today to address two gatherings, the reunion of Holy Angel alumni and the celebration of the feast of La Naval, patroness of Angeles City.

Dr. Calingo is the guest of honor at the reunion of HAU High School Batch '84 in San Diego, Ca. He is expected to update the alumni on the developments in their alma mater and invite them to participate in various University programs, such as the Share-a-Wing scholarship project. Batch '84 is spearheading a multi-batch grand reunion in the US next year.

The University President is also the guest speaker in this year’s La Naval fiesta in Los Angeles, Ca., an annual religious event organized by Filipino-Americans from Angeles City to coincide with the La Naval fiesta in their hometown, celebrated every second Sunday of October (Saturday in the US). Dr. Calingo is expected to speak about his impressions of Angeles City and his experiences as a Kapampangan reconnecting to his cultural roots after spending 38 years in the US. He was the President of Woodbury University in LA prior to his appointment as HAU President last June.

Lastly, Dr. Calingo will visit Javier Nepomuceno in San Francisco, Ca. The 93-year-old Nepomuceno, the eldest son of HAU Founder Juan D. Nepomuceno, convinced his father in 1933 to open a new school for children in Angeles who, like him, clamored for quality and accessible education. The result was Holy Angel University.
