Employees invited to donate to scholarship

HAU President Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo recently relaunched the University’s Share-a-Wing project in which HAU faculty, employees and administrators are invited to donate to scholarship through salary deduction.

Share-a-Wing was a project undertaken by the University’s Scholarships and Grants Office a few years ago until the labor dispute caused its suspension. With the recent signing of a peace agreement between management and union, the new HAU President ordered its resumption.

During the Thanksgiving Mass marking the end of the labor dispute, Dr. Calingo made a direct appeal to the HAU teaching and non-teaching personnel to donate “any amount that you can afford” to the scholarship program, “provided you give from the heart,” he said in his remarks during the Mass.

The President said that opening the fund-raising campaign to faculty and employees give them an opportunity to do good for others and participate in the University’s mission to make quality education accessible.

He cited former students Paul Pili, who was born and raised inside a prison cell, and Ricardo Mallari, who often skipped meals and walked between Mabalacat and HAU to attend classes, as examples of HAU scholars who need additional grants for their daily allowance.

Share-a-Wing invites donors to give between P50 and P1000 every pay day through salary deduction.

In return, donors will have their names and intentions included in the daily Mass at the Chapel of the Holy Guardian Angel, and will receive regular e-newsletters and academic progress reports on students who benefit from their donations.
