HAU has new Chief HR Officer

Holy Angel University has announced the appointment of Atty. Hector V. Hernandez as its new Chief Human Resource Officer effective September 1.

The University President, Dr. Luis Maria R. Calingo, issued a memo today to the HAU community in which he said Atty. Hernandez "brings to the University more than 40 years of experience in human resource management and organization development."

Dr. Calingo also thanked outgoing HR Director Edna Marriza C. Santos for her past service and announced her new role as overseer of the University’s K-to-12 transition.

Atty. Hernandez is the former First Vice President and Group HR Head of MediaQuest, which is under the MVP Group of Companies. He also led the HR function of four of the country’s largest pharmaceutical companies (Glaxo Smith, Novartis, Aventis and Sanofi Aventis) and served the non-profit Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) as HR officer of one of its centers of excellence, the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). He is also a faculty member of the University of Asia and the Pacific.

As HR Head of MediaQuest, Atty. Hernandez implemented reforms in performance evaluation, promotion system and recruitment, and is credited for creating the "Happy Ka Dito Sa TV5" workplace environment culture.

His expertise is in the areas of HR Business Partnering and Networking, Change Management, Competency Development, Diversity and Inclusion, Performance Management, Coaching and Mentoring, Leadership, and Employee Relations.

With over 900 teaching and non-teaching staff, Holy Angel University is one of the biggest private employers in Central Luzon, and with a student population of nearly 21,000, it is also one of the biggest private schools in the region.

Atty. Hernandez graduated with two degrees from the De La Salle University: AB in Behavioral Science in 1974 and BS in Business Administration in 1975. He finished his Bachelor of Laws at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1985 and passed the bar in 1986. He completed a Human Resource Executive Program at the University of Michigan in Hong Kong in 1998 and an HR Excellence Program at the Novartis Corporate University in Basel, Switzerland in 2001.

He was awarded a Fellowship in Personnel Management (FPM) by the Philippine Society of Fellows in Personnel Management in 2003 and the HR leadership Award by the Asia Pacific HRM Congress held in Mumbai, India in 2008.

At present, he co-chairs the Philippine Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP)’s International Committee on ASEAN Integration and chairs the PMAP’s Committee on Webinars. As member of the PMAP’s Learning Advisory Committee, he designed, developed and taught Competency Development Curriculum programs for public seminars and other HR-related programs, e.g., Labor Relations, Supervisory Workshops, Trainers Training, etc. He also regularly conducts workshops for HR practitioners.

Atty. Hernandez is married to Elenita Francisco Hernandez with whom he raised five children. He is half-Kapampangan, his mother being a native of Porac.
