IN-PERSON SYMPOSIUM ON ART APPRECIATION

School of Arts and Sciences

March 1, 2023

The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, under the School of Arts and Sciences, has spearheaded an in-person symposium on Art Appreciation, with the theme, “Art, Man, & Society: Liberating Ourselves through Culture and the Arts.” This was in February to celebrate the National Arts Month. The Guest Speaker, Mr. Oscar G. Casaysay, is the current Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts. On the day of the event, he had to be represented by Mr. Kevin Joshua P. Mejos, the NCCA OIC-Head for Cultural Heritage.

The symposium was attended by the faculty of the department as well as the college students enrolled in Art Appreciation. The main message highlighted the importance of the culture and the arts in the lives of the people, including its dynamism and evolution as the culture and the arts blend in and adapt to the ever-changing conditions of the times, with the hope that students and people from all walks of life get to truly appreciate what the culture and the arts per se, can offer.
