The School of Computing (SOC) at Holy Angel University (HAU) celebrates a resounding victory as its Cyberfoxes team secured the Gold Championship at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Philippine National Skills Competition. The event, held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City from August 19-25, 2024, was part of TESDA’s 30th Anniversary Celebration.
The Cyberfoxes, composed of BS Cybersecurity students from HAU’s SOC, were invited by Mr. Orlando Seachon from the Information and Communication Technology and Cybersecurity Industry Association (ICTCIA) to represent the National Capital Region (NCR) in the competition. The team was led by their coach, SOC Dean Dr. Marlon I. Tayag, with Raily Mallari and Ralph Baskin Bognot rounding out the powerhouse squad.
Three teams from different regions battled for the top spot in the Cybersecurity Skills category. The competition spanned three days, with each round testing the participants' technical prowess and problem-solving capabilities.
On August 22, 2024, during the first round, the Cyberfoxes established an early lead with a 3-point advantage. The following day, August 23, saw a tight contest as the gap narrowed to a single point, keeping the tension high. On the final day, August 24, 2024, the Cyberfoxes showcased their exceptional expertise, particularly in
Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) reporting and presentation. Mr. Bognot delivered a comprehensive VAPT report on a compromised system, while Mr. Mallari demonstrated his advanced memory analysis skills by dissecting a malware infection in a simulated environment.
The closing and awarding ceremony took place on August 25, 2024, with much anticipation. Region V and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) teams took home the silver medals. However, it was the Cyberfoxes from NCR, representing HAU, who claimed the coveted gold medal, earning the title of National Champions in the Cybersecurity Skills category.
Adding to the excitement, with this victory, the HAU SOC Cyberfoxes have earned the honor of representing the Philippines in the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition in August 2025. The upcoming international event will bring together the best cybersecurity talents across Southeast Asia, and the Cyberfoxes are set to showcase their skills on the regional stage.
This victory not only highlights the skill and determination of HAU’s Cyberfoxes but also reinforces the School of Computing’s commitment to excellence in cybersecurity education. As the team gears up for the next level of competition, they carry the pride of their university and the nation, ready to make their mark at WorldSkills ASEAN 2025.
