Criminal Justice educators from 16 higher education institutions across Central Luzon gathered at Holy Angel University on November 13 and 14, 2024, for an intensive capacity-building program on human rights education. Organized by the university's College of Criminal Justice Education and Forensics (CCJEF), the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) GO JUST Program funded the training as part of Holy Angel University's designation as a Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE).
This initiative, one of two Quick Impact Projects (QIP) awarded to Holy Angel University by the CHR GO JUST Program, underscores the growing recognition of criminal justice educators' crucial role in shaping future law enforcement officers and other criminal justice professionals who uphold and protect human rights. The program aims to contribute to a more just and equitable society by integrating human rights into the core of criminal justice education.
Entitled "Empowering Central Luzon's Criminal Justice Educators: A Capacity Building on Human Rights Education," the two-day program equipped educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate human rights principles into their teaching and curriculum.
"This capacity building is not just about imparting knowledge," said Dr. Niño M. Kabiling, CCJEF dean and Project Leader of the CHR QIP Program. "It's about empowering educators to become champions of human rights within their institutions and beyond. By integrating human rights into the core of criminal justice education, we can contribute to a more just and equitable society."
The event concluded with a commitment from participating educators to integrate human rights principles into their respective curricula and promote a human rights-based approach within their institutions. This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards ensuring that future criminal justice professionals in Central Luzon have the knowledge and values to uphold the highest human rights standards.
