The Office of Community Extension Services (OCES) kicked-off the HAU Read Project through the conduct of a parenting session to the parents and teachers of Sapang Bato Elementary School. The session was facilitated by Ms. Lorna Tyson, the Identity and Character Formation Officer of the university.
The HAU READ or HAU Reading Enhancement and Development (READ) Project is a partnership effort between Holy Angel University and Sapang Bato Elementary School, geared towards helping pupils with difficulties in reading as well as extending supplemental capacity-building assistance among teachers in handling students not only in their reading and language classes but also in their content area subjects. In her talk, Ms. Tyson zeroed in on values formation as a key element in cultivating a positive attitude towards learning among school pupils; the importance of family support in the implementation of the project and in the children’s reading progress; the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the university and the said project.
Simultaneously, a pretest was facilitated by the OCES and the University Librarians led by Ms. Emee Rose Balilu, an expert in the field of reading remediation and OCES staff. She was assisted by OCES representatives and University Library volunteers.
The HAU READ Project is headed by the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) and the Office of the Community Extension Services (OCES), in partnership with the ICFSI-CLE, ICFSI-CEP, and the University Library. The reading program for this SY will run from December 2022 to May 2023.
