Abelardo Cortez, Jr., a School of Education (SED) alumnus, was awarded as one of the Huwarang Mag-aaral ng Gitnang Luzon, an Awards and Formation Program initiated by The Outstanding Students of the Philippines – Region 3 Alumni Community of Heroes (TOSP - R3ACH) that seeks to galvanize the youth into nation-building through exemplary academic performance, change-making social movement, and inspiring leadership services to their school, local communities, and the country.
This year, TOSP-R3ACH searched for role models who, despite the demands and pressures of higher education, remote learning, and the COVID-19 pandemic, endeavor to serve their country and people; those whose service to the school, community, and nation spring from a genuine desire and passion to make a difference in the lives of many with every day great examples of heroism.

Cortez’s winning advocacies are the Effective Integration of Technology into Filipino Classrooms and the Upgrading of Teacher Quality, especially in Technology.
The awarding ceremony was held last October 08, 2022, at the Elida Hotel Auditorium, Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc., in Bocaue, Bulacan. Joining Cortez during the event were Ms. Iris Ann Castro (Director for Student Affairs), Ms. Mary Jane Cortez (Mother of the awardee), and Ms. Maria Victoria Pineda (OSA Staff).
