SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

HISTORY

Holy Angel Academy (HAA)  was founded in June 1933 in the then town of Angeles, Pampanga by Don Juan D. Nepomuceno, a philanthropist and businessman, and Fr. Pedro P. Santos, a parish priest, with the primary purpose of offering accessible quality Catholic education in the secondary level.  In 1947, the tertiary department was established with the two-year Junior Normal College or Elementary Teacher’s Certificate in response to the growing need for teachers in public schools.

In 1955, HAA was granted government recognition as Normal Teacher’s College   which was converted into a four-year Collegiate Normal Course or the BSEE in 1963.  At present, there are four (4) teacher education programs namely: Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd), Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNEd), bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) majors in English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious and Values Education.

At present, HAU is one of the autonomous universities in the Philippines, the highest recognition that the CHED grants to a higher education institution in the country.  In addition,  Teacher Education undergraduate programs are conferred by CHED with Center of Development (COD) status, accredited Level 2 status by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) and awarded as A School of Character by Character Education Philippines (CEP).
