Predicting HAU College Freshmen Enrollment Using Logistic Regression

Mr. Jefferson Mangulabnan,
Research Coordinator, University Research and Planning Office
Faculty, Department of Mathematics
College of Arts, Sciences and Education

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the differences of enrolled and not enrolled college freshmen applicants in terms of their personal, family, school related and economic related variables. The variables included were those found in their personal data sheets. A sample of 661 was selected from 4815 freshmen applicants in S.Y 2007-2008. Descriptive method of research was used in the study. Logistics Regression Analysis was utilized to determine which of the variables included in the study predicted their enrollment at HAU. The results showed that financial support of parents and the type of high school they attended predict their enrollment at HAU.

A Validation of Learner-Centered Principles

Mr. Carlos Buan
Faculty, Department of Social Sciences
College of Arts & Sciences and Education

Abstract

This descriptive-correlational study validated the Learner-Centered principles by investigating the influence of the teachers’ strategies, personalities and epistemological beliefs on the self-regulation, academic performance and epistemological beliefs of the college students during the first semester of school year 2008—2009. Heroic myth index, epistemological belief, and self-regulation questionnaires were used. Majority of the 437 student and 18 teacher respondents came from CASED. Teachers believed that knowledge continues to change, is a slow process and continue to evolve. The teachers’ personality was described as confrontational, objective and fair, and playful. Teachers’ use of quizzes and laboratory experiment were correlated with the students’ self-regulation. The personality and epistemological beliefs were significantly correlated with the students’ epistemological beliefs and academic performance.

Role of Personality Tests in the Recruitment, Selection and Retention of Employees In Selected Companies in Angeles City and Clark Freeport Zone

Marigrace D. Almario
Faculty, Department of Business Management
College of Business and Accountancy

This study is focused on the evaluation on the role and reliability of personality test in conducting various human resource activities including employee recruitment and appraisal. The research also aimed to identify the advantages and disadvantages of screening applicants through a personality test. A questionnaire, structured in Likert format, was administered to Human Resource personnel for data gathering. Based from the results of the survey, personality test plays an important role in the recruitment and appraisal of the employees. The respondents agree that this HR tool is capable of identifying essential personal attributes of the applicants, which promote effective hiring and promotion.

Language Learning Strategies of Koreans and Filipinos in
Multicultural English Classes of Holy Angel University

Arlan Veras Payad
Department of English
College of Arts & Sciences and Education

Abstract

The results of the study indicate that high-achieving Filipinos and Koreans showed average to high preference for the LLS (language learning strategies). Average-achieving and low-achieving Filipinos and Koreans showed average preference in general. High-achieving Koreans are at least slightly more strategic in learning than their Filipino counterparts. Both groups had the same level of LLS use intensity. The Koreans and Filipinos had a positive attitude towards Americans. The Filipinos and Koreans exhibited neutral attitude towards each other. In general, the Koreans’ cultural attitude towards foreigners was neutral while Filipinos’ was positive. No correlation was seen in the cultural attitudes displayed by Koreans with general LLS use intensity while positive correlation was seen in the case of Filipinos.

Estimation of Solar Potential of HAU Building Rooftops

Department of Electrical Engineering
College of Engineering and Architecture

This paper presents the estimation of solar potential of HAU building rooftops. The calculation inputs include the area of the university buildings, Roof to Floor Space Ratio, Electrical Energy Demand, Solar panel Technology, Annual Insolation, System component prices, and Installation Cost. The percentage reduction in electrical energy contributed by a design 200 kW capacity PV technology and the benefit cost ratio were determined. The results showed a 16.4% slice in the electrical energy demand with a benefit cost ratio of 0.6

Natural Air Drying with Solar Heat and Thermal Energy Storage in Rocks:
Creating a Role for Renewable Energy in Poverty Alleviation to Poor Cultural

Minorities of Pampanga

Arturo Mariano I. Figueroa
Department of Electrical Engineering
College of Engineering and Architecture

In this study, the author reported the ocular visit conducted in an Aeta community in Barangay Camias, Porac Pampanga in an attempt to come up with concept of technical intervention that may lead to a community development project in crop processing in the future. Then the author clarified the characteristics of two types of solar collector, namely rockbed and pavement type. The results presented in terms of heat gain and drying air quality ( velocity and temperature level) suggest promising application of the solar collector in natural air drying system with solar heat and thermal energy storage

Cheap Production of Combustible Oxyhydrogen ( HOH) from the Mixture of Water and Additives Using an Improvised Electrolyzer: A Confirmatory Study

Renato S. David
Department of Civil Engineering

Greg Padua
Department of Mechanical Engineering

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the alleged production of huge amount of oxyhydrogen that is enough to run a car engine. Using an electrolyser developed by the researchers which is composed of cylindrical electrodes soaked in a water-based mixture and powered by a 12 volt battery with a 60 ampere rating, the researchers measured the amount of oxyhydrogen produced versus the energy used using the designed electrolyser.

Findings showed that oxyhydrogen production is possible using a 12 volt source but the amount is not sufficient to run a car engine using the developed electrolyser. Oxyhydrogen comes from both water and the additive, therefore, the efficient additive are those with greater hydrogen content. Additive used were salt and baking soda which were available at Php 20-40 per kilogram. Efficient ratio was observed at one liter of water to two table spoon of baking soda. As the oxyhydrogen is extracted, the pH level of the water-based mixture increases. The energy capacity of the designed electrolyser is 252 watts under a rating of 23-24 amperes and 10.5–11 volts. Amount of hydrogen extracted is 0.0010 grams per second. Computation of the hydrogen mass was based from the ideal gas law equation.

Servant Leadership in Nursing Service Administration: The Case of
Government Hospitals in Tarlac and Pampanga

Al D. Biag
Faculty, College of Nursing
Faculty, Graduate School of Nursing

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the servant leadership characterization of nursing service administrators of government hospitals in Pampanga and Tarlac. A descriptive correlational design was used. A purposive sample of 70 nurse administrators comprised the respondents. Based on the results on Servant Leadership Inventory (SLI), the majority of them have very low to low servant first orientation, average to above average receptive responsive caring, above average other centered service, and very low to low instructive transformative relating. Their age and position were significantly related to their servant leadership disposition specifically on the dimensions servant first orientation and instructive transformative relating. Implications for practice of nursing administration were addressed through a servant leadership development plan.
