HAU receives gov't funding support for TBI establishment

Holy Angel University is among 20 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) all over the country granted funding and training assistance for the building and implementation of a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) from the P200-million investment allotted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the establishment of TBIs in the Philippines.

The Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HEIRIT) is a development program announced by Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) of the DOST in September 2017 which will serve as a preparatory program for HEIs to implement, build, and run TBIs.

In pursuit of one of the four strategic objectives of HAU, which is to become “an authentic instrument for countryside development,” the School of Business and Accountancy (SBA) and School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) joined their collective resources for business development. The result is the concept of establishing a mechanism for the promotion of a technopreneurship clinic in the University. The clinic was conceived with the end of providing assistance to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs in Central Luzon as technopreneurs.

Called the HAU's ENCEPHALON, the clinic will provide the lead in developing the field of technopreneurship and serve as the development hub where the entire range of activities involved in business incubation-acceleration-commercialization take place. In an interview with Dr. Caroline Acosta, Dean of SBA, she shared that the proposed facility will guide technopreneurs identify the uniqueness of their business concepts from “packaging to conceptualization” and identify its similarity to another existing entity.

The HAU team headed by Dr. Alma Espartinez, VP for Academic Affairs attended a MOU signing during the 1st Philippine Technology Business Incubator Summit at Cebu City last November 24. A series of activities are already lined up until June 2019 which includes training schedules, TBI's official launch, and launch of Technopreneurship courses.
