HAU to Screen Top Indie Film
“Jay,” winner for Best Picture at the recent Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival will have a special screening for Kapampangans at the Holy Angel University Theatre, on Friday, August 1 at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Written, produced and directed by Francis Xavier Pasion who is half-Kapampangan, and starring Kapampangan actors Baron Geisler and Coco Martin, the movie was shot almost entirely in Bacolor, Pampanga and has several Kapampangan dialogues.
“Jay” is also the country’s official entry to the Venice International Film Festival.
According to Ferdinand Lapus, the film’s distributor, showing the film in Pampanga ahead of other venues in the country is a way of thanking the townspeople of Bacolor who starred in the movie.
“We are endorsing the movie especially to students who are majoring in communications and broadcasting, because it tackles ethical issues that journalists and broadcasters face everyday,” says Robby Tantingco, the University’s AVP for Student Services and Affairs.
In the movie, Baron Geisler plays a segment producer of a TV newsmagazine who manipulates real-life characters to get his story done. In the process, he realizes he is also being manipulated by them. Geisler won the Cinemalaya Best Actor award for this role.
